Below is an snippet from the site giving more information about Xyan and his illness.

"Family and friends of Xyan, are now uniting to help raise fund for Xyan’s open heart surgery. Your support and prayer will be very much appreciated.

Xyan is a very sweet and a very smart boy. At his current age of 3, he can count 1-15, can name all the shapes, all the colors, can sing his ABCs, had memorized about 10 nursery songs. He likes to hug people and say it will be ok. He is really a great kid.

He was born at 38 weeks, and was immediately diagnosed with Double Outlet Right Ventricle with Pulmonary Stenosis Infundibulovalvar, severe with normally related great arteries with aortic regurgitation, mild. He was retained another week at the hospital because of other complications. His recent 2D Echo assessment is Double Outlet Right Ventricle with Pulmonary Stenosis and Patent Ductus Arteriosus.

Xyan, at a week’s old, was referred to the Heart Center, immediately after he was discharged from the local hospital. He was advised by his pediatric cardiologist to have a CT angio and cardiac cathetherization and an open heart surgery – correction of DORV under cardiopulmonary bypass on or before he turn 6 months; but due to lack of funds, his family had to delay, he was placed on maintainance medicine while waiting. The quote that was given by the Heart Center is an estimate of 111,500 RMB for the surgery alone, not yet including his recovery expenses.

What is Double Outlet Right Ventricle?

Double outlet right ventricle (DORV) is a congenital heart disease in which the aorta rises from the right ventricle (the chamber of the heart that pumps blood to the lungs), instead of from the left ventricle (the normal pumping chamber to the body).

Both the pulmonary artery (which carries oxygen-poor blood to the lungs) and aorta (which carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the body) come from the same pumping chamber. No arteries arise from the left ventricle (the normal pumping chamber to the body).

Pulmonary valve is a heart valve disorder that involves the pulmonary valve. This valve separates the right ventricle (one of the chambers in the heart) and the pulmonary artery. The pulmonary artery carries oxygen-poor blood to the lungs.

Stenosis, or narrowing, occurs when the valve cannot open wide enough. As a result, less blood flows to the lungs.

Xyan has a hole and clog in his heart, apart from that, he has pulmonary stenosis, which causes him to have a hard time breathing. Because of Xyan’s condition, he is cyanotic ( turns Blue or purple tint to lips, skin and nails ), he has poor eating and poor weight gain, and has rapid breathing or shortness of breath. Everything excessive is not allowed because it might cause his heart to fail.

Let us help this little boy extend his life and see how wonderful life is! He had waited for this operation since he was 6 months old. Let’s give him a chance."
