Singer-songwriter Liu Yusi will talk about how he came up with the idea of touring on bicycle in support of various grassroots non-profit projects, and also his actual experiences when venturing forth on his epic journeys. So far he has organised trips in Australia (Sydney to Melbourne) and China (Beijing to Shanghai). Yusi will also talk about what he learned from these two trips – new understandings of grassroots activism, different social values and the connection between social culture and the natural environment.
After the talk he will give an intimate music performance. This is a charitable event, with proceeds (minus reasonable costs) going to The Library Project [www.library-project.org] (图书馆计划) to help build a library in rural Hebei.
*The talks will be given in Chinese but English notes will be shown on a projected screen.
The Library Project donates libraries to under-financed schools and orphanages in China, Cambodia and Vietnam. The organization believes that education is the key motivator to breaking the cycle of poverty that exists in the developing world. In a word, education is change!
